Southampton manager Mark Hughes has today revealed that winger Mohamed Elyounoussi could miss this weekend’s clash with Everton.

The Norwegian made his Saints debut in the side’s Premier League opener against Burnley this past weekend, impressing with his passing and direct style of play.

However he is now a doubt for the game against Toffees this coming Saturday, with Mark Hughes confirming that a hamstring tweak could force the winger to miss the match. He did however confirm that Stuart Armstrong – who came off after 55 minutes against Burnley – has recovered from his injury.

"“At the moment, apart from maybe Moi at the weekend, we’ve got everyone fit and available, Stuart Armstrong is okay after his knock.”"

This means that Hughes could be forced to play 3-5-2 once again rather than the 4-4-2 which was effective in the second half against the Clarets, as the Saints’ only other natural wingers are Nathan Redmond and Josh Sims, and the katter only recently played for the Under-23’s.

With Armstrong fit again though we could see the Scot behind a potential duo of Ings and Gabbiadini, with supporters speculating that they could flourish together up top.

However Moi’s creativity will be sorely missed on the front foot if he is injured, especially as Everton are without their natural leader at the back in Phil Jagielka, who misses through suspension.

Marco Silva’s side were boosted by the news that winger Richarlison should be fit after he also suffered a knock on match-week 1, after scoring a brace to twice give his side the lead in their 2-2 draw with Wolves.

Everton recruited strongly over summer, with Richarlison himself costing £35 million up front whilst they also signed three players from Barcelona alone – they’ll be no easy game this weekend.

Southampton versus Everton kicks off this Saturday at Goodison Park at 3PM.
