Alireza Jahanbakhsh

Brighton’s record signing has only featured twice off the bench so far this campaign, whether that be because of his World Cup commitments or just Hughton taking his time to bed the Iranian in.

Either way tonight in the Carabao Cup provides the perfect setting to hand the tricky winger his first start of the season, and down the right he could really dangerous for the home side with his pace and direct style of play.

I earmarked the Iranian as a possible alternative to Quincy Promes back at the start of summer, after the right-winger scored 21 goals and set up a further 12 in just 33 Eredivisie appearances last time out.

Although we’re unlikely to see him even produce half of that in the competitive Premier League, Southampton have looked shaky at the back this year so far and he could easily snatch a goal if they’re caught napping.
