Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse – Central Defensive-Midfield – 7

Given a role in the centre after playing on the right of midfield for much of the last year. Doesn’t possess the traits needed to play ahead of Romeu, Lemina or Hojbjerg so has had to reinvent himself.

Forced one flying save by Button with a fierce free-kick from around 25 yards out, and it was his cross that almost gave Elyounoussi his first goal in a Saints shirt.

Oriol Romeu – Central Defensive-Midfield – 6.5

The defensive partner alongside Ward-Prowse and produced some nice driving runs and passes forward.

His role in the team is often overlooked but the Spaniard is certainly the best sitting midfielder that the club has.

Mohamed Elyounoussi – Right-Wing – 7

Unlucky not to get his first Saints goal when he met a cross but headed straight at Button.

Has looked bright in the league and will become an increasingly important player for the team as he adjusts further to English football.

Steven Davis – Central Attacking-Midfield – 6.5

A rare appearance for the club captain these days but a workmanlike display as always. Mark Hughes always knows that he can rely on Davis if he brings him in.

Stuart Armstrong – Left-Wing – 7

After impressive form in pre-season, the Scottish international has been unlucky to not play more in the opening Premier League games.

He showed what he can bring to the side here with driving runs forward and a couple of efforts on goal that went marginally wide.
