Striker and Substitutes

Manolo Gabbiadini – Striker – 7.5

Deservedly given a start after waiting for his opportunity, and he looked dangerous without being at his sharpest. Tested Brighton keeper David Button on three occasions and could feel unfortunate to not find the net.

Sam Gallagher – 1st Substitute – 8

Introduced after 70 minutes and made a real impact in attacking areas. Had two chances to get his name on the scoresheet before setting Austin up for his shot that was cleared off the line. It looks as though he will be staying at the club until at least January and really ought to get some game-time.

Nathan Redmond – 2nd Substitute – 8.5

Part of an inspired double substitution by Hughes going into the last 10 minutes and continued his impressive start to this season by setting up the winner.

He beat his marker for pace with ease, drove to the goalline and clipped in a cross to the perfect area for Austin to head home.

Charlie Austin – 3rd Substitute – 7

Did what he does best and was in the right place to powerfully head in the winner three minutes from time. It will be interesting to see whether he or Gabbiadini have done enough to get back into starting line-ups in the near future.
