Southampton: 10 Saints players off on international duty

A total of 10 Saints players have been called up for international duty over the next two weeks and will play in a variety of competitions.

All of Alex McCarthy, Cedric, Stuart Armstrong, Jan Bednarek, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Angus Gunn, Steven Davis, Jannik Vestergaard, Mario Lemina and Jake Vokins will be representing  Southampton whilst with their respective teams over the next fortnight.

Shane Long was also due to join up with the Republic of Ireland for two matches but will remain on the South Coast after picking up an injury in Saints’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The first fixtures in the newly created UEFA Nations League make up most of the 10 players’ involvements, with the relegation and promotion concept adding an interesting dynamic to international football.
