Bournemouth 0-0 Southampton: Three key players
By Erik Franzo
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
It is a little worrying that Southampton fans are expecting him to be the go-to goalscorer at this point. Yes, he has scored two spectacular goals this season and had some chances to add to his tally against Bournemouth, but it is all the little things he does for the team that truly matter.
Freshly after being recalled and starting for the Danish National team, Hojbjerg put in another workmanlike 90 minutes. The impact of his performance was best felt after giving the ball away near midfield late in the game, only to make it up by winning the tackle off of Junior Stanislas threatening inside the Southampton penalty box.
Hojbjerg is a tireless worker, box to box, and the driving force in the centre of the Saints’ pitch. It will be interesting to see who he is partnered with next weekend after Mario Lemina left with injury. However, there is little doubt from fans and manager that his name will be one of the first on the team sheet every week.
