Southampton are said to be looking at bringing Genk attacker Leandro Trossard to England to add proven goalscoring to their squad.

According to Italian outlet calciomercato.com, the Saints have identified the 23-year-old Belgian as a potential recruit after his stunning form for his club this season.

In 17 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League and the Europa League, he has managed to bag 15 goals whilst also laying on another four goal assists for teammates.

This can be seen as quite a feat from his attacking position on the left-wing and he clearly possesses the important ability to ghost in from out wide to both create and score.

Trossard had loan spells at fellow Belgian clubs Lommel United, KVC Westerlo and OH Leuven before returning to Genk and has 69 goals and 22 assists in 193 career appearances so far.

More from Saints Marching

Transfermarkt.co.uk currently values him at around £9m and this fee could be achievable for Saints due to the financial power of the Premier League in comparison to other European leagues.

Goals being added from wide areas would certainly help Mark Hughes and his side because they still struggle to create clear-cut opportunities at times during matches.

Nathan Redmond has been bright in the opening games of the season but is yet to register a goal or assist whilst Moi Elyounoussi is yet to get up to full speed in a Saints shirt.

Trossard’s ability as an inside-forward could see him play a similar role to that of Jay Rodriguez in the 2013/14 campaign. He would often provide the driving runs to open up opposition defences and was in red hot form in front of goal too.

Moving to the the English top-flight would give Trossard the chance to showcase his abilities on the biggest stage. He is yet to be capped by Belgium at senior level despite being heavily involved through the junior ranks.

Current Belgian stars in the Premier League include Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
