Belief should be high after last weekend

Last weekend saw Saints put in a battling display at Bournemouth and halt a run a of three consecutive defeats.

The will of Mark Hughes’ side to defend and then create a few chances of their own was promising and they managed to limit an impressive Bournemouth side throughout the 90 minutes.

Newcastle hit perhaps their lowest point of their season yet as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton.

After a frustrating summer for the fans with lack of investment in the playing squad, two draws and seven defeats so far will not have improved the mood amongst their fanbase and feelings towards owner Mike Ashley.

Whether those results will have bearing on today is yet to be determined, but Saints will certainly have to be on form whatever.
