Southampton’s Carabao Cup tie at Leicester City postponed
By Marc Walker
Southampton’s Carabao Cup Fourth-Round tie against Leicester City has been postponed following the tragic helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Leicester announced this evening that five people lost their lives in the accident and that one of those people was Foxes chairman Vichai Srivaddhnaprabha, who led the club to the Premier League title back in 2015/16.
The incident on Saturday has seen the football community pull together to send their condolences to both the families involved and Leicester City as a club.
A new date for the Carabao Cup Fourth-Round tie will have to be arranged, but that will be of little importance with what the people affected by the tragedy have gone through.
Saints were one of the many clubs and fans to send a message of support to their Premier League counterparts on social media by saying “The thoughts of all of us at Southampton Football Club remain with our colleagues at Leicester, the Srivaddhanaprabha family and everyone affected by the tragic incident.”

Saints reached Round-Four of the Carabao Cup after wins against Brighton and Everton, with the latter seeing a dramatic victory on penalties.
Leicester saw off Fleetwood Town and Wolves to set up the clash with their top-flight rivals, but an appropriate date to play the game will now be determined once the clubs and the authorities see fit.
Vichai Srivaddhnaprabha had built a fantastic relationship with the players, fans and the community in Leicester and it will understandably take the city a while to recover from the terrible accident that led to his death.
The Foxes have had a mixed start to the Premier League season under former Saints boss Claude Puel. They currently sit in 12th place on 13 points after four wins, one draw and five losses.
This form is considerably better than Saints have produced under Mark Hughes. They continue to look over their shoulders in 16th position after a 0-0 draw with Newcastle at the weekend.
Claude Puel has a good record in this competition in his short time in England after leading Saints to the final in 2016/17 where they would eventually lose 3-2 to Manchester United.
