Southampton club captain Steven Davis has today been linked with a move back to former side Rangers.
The midfielder was repeatedly linked with the Scottish side back over the summer, to the extent many people thought Stuart Armstrong was the 33-year-old’s replacement.
However nothing ever materialised and the Northern Irishman remains a Southampton player but perhaps not for long, with the Belfast Telegraph again linking him with a return to former side Rangers.
Davis spent five years with the Scottish side before joining the Saints back when they were promoted to the Premier League, but has struggled for regular form and fitness in the last 18 months, being seemed surplus to requirements as a result.
Davis has been loyal to the Saints even when he hasn’t been a first-team regular but at this point it may be wiser for him to move on, with Lemina, Hojbjerg and Romeu all streets ahead of the 33-year-old.

With the likes of Jake Hesketh and Harrison Reed both performing well on loan, supporters would almost certainly prefer the youngsters to get game time over the experienced Davis next year.
Rangers are currently fifth in the Scottish Premier League and Steven Gerrard’s team could do with the reinforcement to push forward over the next two-thirds of the campaign.
Rangers are only two points behind rivals Celtic who are third and therefore the SPL is wide open as it stands, with Hearts leading the league currently.
Davis may be struggling with the pace of the Premier League nowadays but he could thrive across the border, and could see out his career in fine style.
