Southampton, according to a French news outlet, are looking within the Premier League to find Les Reed’s replacement.

The hunt for a new chairman for Southampton is on. A report has come out from a French newspaper, Sud Ouest, that the Saints are targeting Leicester’s head of recruiting, Eduardo Macia.

Talks between Macia and French side Bordeaux have seemingly gone cold and Southampton are poised to swoop-in and hire the 44-year-old Spaniard.

Macia signed a contract to be Leicester head of recruiting in September of 2016. Prior to working for Leicester, the former Valencia player spent time at notable clubs in prominent roles. From 2006 to 2010, he was Chief Scout for fellow Premier League side Liverpool signing players like Fernando Torres and Raheem Sterling.

After Liverpool, he spent successful stints at Olympiacos, Fiorentina, and Real Beits in a variety of scouting and recruiting roles. Finding success at all clubs including helping Real Betis gain promotion to La Liga in Spain.

Macia seems to have a great eye for talent. He has proven time and time again that he can bring in players that fit a team and have loads of talent. His skill set would fit in great at Southampton, given that the club does not like to spend an exuberant amount of money on players and pride themselves on finding hidden gems for a cheap price.

Hopefully, in the next few days the picture will be clearer and we will have a better idea of who will be in the back office of Southampton calling the shots and filling the absence that has been left behind by Les Reed.
