Already looking to January, Southampton have been linked with a number of player but none more surprising than Bestikas defender, Pepe.

A rumor that would surprise more than a few, Southampton have been linked with Bestikas defender, Pepe for the upcoming transfer window. Southampton, reportedly tried signing the centre back in the summer but the move was blocked by the Turkish club.

The former Real Madrid star is currently taking up a large chunk of the payroll for the Turkish side who are looking to relieve a bit of the financial burden it is causing on the club.

Also interested in signing the defender are a few clubs who play in Saudi Arabia. They are looking to lure the player away from other potential bidders by offering him a pay day that could not be matched by the English side.

With the defense looking a bit soft at times, the Portuguese man could shore things up in the short term and add stability to the back line.

But at what cost? He is currently making just under £5m with Bestikas and they will surely be asking a heavy price for the defender. In addition, what would this mean for summer signing, Jannik Vestergaard? Would he fall even further down the pecking order and waste away not seeing any time on the pitch?

It would seem a bad bit of business to spend the sort of money they did on the Great Dane just to see him not break into the first team for the rest of the season. But then again, poor transfers and bad business have seemed like a bit of a theme for Southampton lately. Breaking record signing after record signing just to have them sit the bench or go out on loan.
