Southampton: Saints drawn to face Derby County in FA Cup
By Marc Walker
Southampton will face Derby County away from home in the Third-Round of the FA Cup after the draw was made this evening.
The tie will be played over the weekend of the 5th and 6th of January as Premier League Saints travel to the Midlands to face their opponents from the Championship.
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is the current manager of the Rams and has enjoyed a successful first season in management to date.
They currently sit in 7th place in the second-tier and look to be involved in the race for promotion to the top-flight.
Saints will have a new manager in place by then after Mark Hughes was sacked today, with Ralph Hasenhuttl the strong favourite to take the vacancy at St Mary’s.

Whilst Hughes’ sacking was expected after a poor start to 2018/19, it can be seen as fairly unfortunate for him to be relieved of his duties after a very decent 2-2 draw versus Manchester United at the weekend.
The trip that Saints make to Pride Park next month will be their second of recent times after a 3-0 loss to Derby in pre-season.
Their last competitive fixture came in the 2011/12 campaign when Saints were victorious by a scoreline of 4-0.
This year’s competition will see Saints hoping to repeat their FA Cup run from last season. They reached the Semi-Final at Wembley but would lose to Chelsea after previously beating Fulham, Watford, West Brom and Wigan.
The extra game in January will add a fifth fixture to the month for the team but they face a hectic December even before that.
Derby went out at the Third-Round stage last season as they lost 2-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
They would get revenge over the Red Devils back in September though after beating Jose Mourinho’s side on penalties in the Carabao Cup.
Other notable ties from the Third-Round draw see Solihull Moors face Arsenal if they beat Blackpool in a replay and Southport will face Spurs if they win their replay with Tranmere Rovers.
