Southampton vs Arsenal: Premier League – Opposition Threats
By Harry Tizard
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Gabonise international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the main man up top for Arsenal, and is sure to be fresh for the game after being completely left out of Arsenals Europa League squad on Thursday night.
Pierre, who shares his nationality with Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina, has been involved in thirteen goals this season, scoring ten, and assisting three.
The Saints lack a centre back that is quick on their feet – with players such as Jannik Vestergaard, Wesley Hoedt, and Jack Stephens renowned for their pace. Aubameyang, one of the leagues quickest players, will be looking to get in behind the defence with the knowledge that it is unlikey that he’ll be caught. As a result, is more that likely Hasenhuttl will be dropping the defence back at least 10 yards – otherwise they will be too exposed from simple balls in between the defends or over the top.
With all of this, plus the fact that Southampton are known for their defensive mistakes, it does not bode well with the fact the Arsenal striker has scored sixteen of his twenty Premier League goals on a Sunday.
