Rumor: Saints are linked with Fulham goalkeeper Bettinelli
It has come out that Southampton are looking for a goalkeeper to bring in because Alex McCarthy is drawing the interest of other Premier League teams.
According to the Daily Mail, Saints front office have apparently become interested in out-of-favor Fulham keeper, Marcus Bettinelli. Bettinelli, has lost his starting job over the past few weeks to Sergio Rico.
The English International earned a call-up to the English National team earlier this season and may have to find a change of scenery if he wants to continue getting looks from Gareth Southgate and his staff after being dropped form the starting XI for Fulham.

So what does this mean for the Saints? First, it will be very interesting to see if there is any truth to the McCarthy rumors and who are the mystery teams that are interested in the Englishman. Will it be worth it to sell our number one to another Premier League side? Is the staff confident Angus Gunn will be as good as advertised?
All of these questions now loom after this shock rumor. With Fraser Forster looking to be gone in January too, it would leave only Gunn left as our only goalkeeper option. So, it would make sense to go out and get another keeper in January. Especially, one that meets the Premier League homegrown status and has proven he has ability to stop shots at the top level.
Alex McCarthy, over the past year, has been a joy to watch. He has been one of the few bright spots for a Southampton team that was relegation threated last year and still this season. He earned one of the highest honors for a player by getting a national call-up. It would be sad to see him go to another Premier League side and stop our shots but we have to trust the direction Hasenhuttl wants to take this team.
