It was announced that long-time Saint, Steven Davis, will be joining Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

The move has been rumored for months now and it finally came to fruition on Sunday. Davis, who has struggling to find playing time this season wanted to make his return to Rangers and no one can blame him. He is an aging player, who is past his prime and this move allows him to play meaningful football again for a club who he is familiar with and who are familiar with him.

Davis, addressed the fans in a statement that you can read here. The Northern Irishman, talks about his time as a Saint and the ups and downs that went along with it. The positives include moments such as the cup final a few seasons ago and being captain of the squad.

More from Saints Marching

Davis was a quality player and a better person. He kept his head down and did what was asked and never complained. For seven years, Saint Fans enjoyed watching him lead the team and making his teammates around him better. His goal and assist totals may not be flashy but he was so much more than those numbers. His Pass Success Rate was comfortably in the mid 80’s during his time with Saints and made 1 key pass per match. On top of being a great passer he was a great leader and I am sure his presence will be missed in and around the club.

What does this move mean for the club? Not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. Hasenhuttl, has repeatedly said the squad is too big and players need to leave and this move make sense for both parties. There will for sure be more departures this January but right now we bid farewell to Steven Davis and thank him for all he has done for the club.
