Southampton claimed a vital win at St Mary’s last night as they saw off Fulham 2-0.

The result lifts them out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and could prove to be a key moment in the race for top-flight survival.

First-half goals from Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse were enough to see the hosts over the line and it now appears that only the third spot of the drop zone is to be decided with Fulham and Huddersfield well adrift.

A number of important performances came from individuals within Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side and the Austrian named a side with three important changes.

Maya Yoshida, Ryan Bertrand and Charlie Austin came in to give the line-up a better look overall, whilst Angus Gunn kept his place in goal.
