Southampton: Mixed Euro qualifier results for Armstrong and Bednarek
By Marc Walker
There were mixed European Championship Qualifier results for Southampton players Stuart Armstrong and Jan Bednarek last night.
Both players played the full 90 minutes for Scotland and Poland respectively but would end the night feeling completely different emotions.
Armstrong and Scotland were on the end of an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Kazakhstan in their opening qualifier in group I.
They were two down after just ten minutes after goals from Yuriy Pertsukh and Yan Vorogovskiy, whilst a third from Baktiyor Zainutdinov shortly after half-time completed a miserable evening for Alex McLeish’s side.
Other games in group I included a 5-0 win for Cyprus over San Marino and a 2-0 victory for Belgium over Russia.
Scotland now head to San Marino in need for a morale-boosting win to get their Euro campaign back on track.
Jan Bednarek and Poland managed an impressive 1-0 win away to Austrian in Group G.

The three points came courtesy of a second-half strike from AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, who is in a red hot run of scoring form.
Elsewhere in their group, Macedonia beat Latvia 3-1 and Israel played out a 1-1 draw with Slovenia.
Poland next host Latvia on Sunday evening and will be looking to make it two wins from two qualifiers.
Armstrong and Bednarek have had differing seasons so far for Saints back in England.
Armstrong began the season in the team under Mark Hughes but has since fallen out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
A few substitute cameos in recent Premier League games have provided a glimpse of the talent that he clearly has and the impact that he can make though.
Bednarek on the other hand went missing under Hughes but has since been a revelation in the Saints defence.
Some superb displays have seen him making countless blocks and tackles to become a key part of the current three-man defence.
At Wembley this evening, James Ward-Prowse was an unused substitute as England claimed a comfortable 5-0 win over Czech Republic.
A Raheem Sterling hat-trick, Harry Kane’s penalty and a Tomas Kalas own-goal saw Gareth Southgate’s side to victory in their opening qualifier.
