Montenegro 1-5 England: Ward-Prowse wins second cap in dominant win
By Marc Walker
Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse won his second senior international cap in England’s 5-1 win over Montenegro this evening.
The 24-year-old was introduced for the final 10 minutes of the game by Gareth Southgate but entered the field at a time when the game was over as a contest.
Ward-Prowse will be hoping to secure himself a long-term place in the current three lions squad that is full of exciting talent.
His first full international cap came back in 2017 in a friendly win over Germany.
On current form, he deserves to be in and around Southgate’s main group but he will have to keep on playing and performing for Saints in the future to retain his place.
It was a confident start by England in a notoriously hostile stadium, but they would fall behind surprisingly in the 17th minute.

Montenegro worked a good move forward but would get a slice of luck as the ball ricocheted off Michael Keane and back to Marko Vesovic, who curled a placed effort into the far corner.
Previous England sides may have struggled to get into the contest quickly but Gareth Southgate has instilled a winning mentality into the current crop of players at his disposal.
They drew level as Ross Barkley’s enticing free-kick delivery was headed in by Keane at the far post, and then Barkley himself put the three lions in front.
The excellent Callum Hudson-Odoi cut inside and released a shot towards goal that was diverted home by his Chelsea teammate.
Despite not having a lot of game time at their club this season, both players were having a big influence on this match, and this was confirmed further still by Barkley’s second goal.
Raheem Sterling wriggled his way to the byline and squeezed a low cross back to the midfielder to slam home with ease.
England’s dominance then led to Harry Kane netting a fourth from another Sterling pass, and Sterling himself then got on the scoresheet to cap another impressive display for him and his country.
