Goals Conceded

Speaking to a few Saints fans earlier this week, they told me that the defence should be a priority when it comes to summer signings. They might have a point, as their side has conceded 1.61 goals per game this season. Away from home, the record is worse, with 1.75 goals per game conceded. It could be worse, you could be Fulham, who has conceded 72 goals in 31 games. The worst defence in all of the top leagues across Europe. Yikes!

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. They have kept 7 clean sheets this season. That’s the same number as Watford, Manchester United and Arsenal. The majority of these clean sheets actually came under Hughes’ management, keeping Burnley, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Newcastle at bay.

Since December, the Saints have kept clean sheets against Chelsea, Fulham and most recently, Brighton.
