Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 7

Stuck with the same system he went for at Newcastle. Gave Armstrong a deserved start and handing Long a place in the side paid off big time.

Angus Gunn, Goalkeeper – 6.5

Not too much to deal with but smothered an early effort from Andre Gray and denied Roberto Pereyra well late on.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 7.5

Great defensive contribution on a night where Saints were pushed back at times. Nine clearances, four interceptions and two blocks.

Maya Yoshida, Centre-Back – 7

Eight clearances and some decent leadership from the centre of the back three.

Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 7

A more composed display that might help get his confidence back.
