Southampton: Saints wanting to sell Gallagher with Blackburn said to be keen
By Marc Walker
Southampton look set to ship out striker Sam Gallagher in this summer’s transfer window in a bid to reshape their first-team squad.
According to Journalist Alan Nixon, the Saints will sell the 23-year-old in order to free up funds to do their own business and his former loan club Blackburn Rovers are said to be keen.
With low league finishes of 17th and 16th in the past two years putting a strain on the funds available to Ralph Hasenhuttl for transfers, players will have to leave in order for signings to be made.
Gallagher returned to Saints to spend the 2018/19 season at St Mary’s but it proved to be a campaign where he couldn’t make an impression on either Mark Hughes or Hasenhuttl.
He burst onto the scene back in the 2013/14 and showed promise in his early days in with the senior setup.
However, recent years have seen him shipped out on numerous loans to Football League clubs and he now looks set to move on permanently.

Since 2015, Gallagher has been on short and long-term loans with MK Dons, Blackburn and Birmingham.
His most fruitful spell came at Ewood Park with Blackburn in 2016/17 when he played a part in all but three of their games in all competitions.
He became a bit of a favourite with the fans there too after netting 12 goals overall.
Now that he is reportedly up for grabs, returning to a place he knows well could be favourable as he looks for his next step in his career.
Gallagher couldn’t prevent the Rovers being relegated from the second-tier last time he was there but he would be returning when they seem to be in a much more stable position.
They finished in a respectable 15th place in 2018/19 and have found a real wise head in Tony Mowbray to lead the club back to the Championship.
More departures alongside Gallagher are expected this summer but it remains to be seen who Ralph Hasenhuttl chooses to have as part of his group into the future.
