Alastair Case – Saints 2-1 Spurs

Another tough category but Southampton’s win over Spurs after going a goal down, was a pulsating encounter and was ultimately integral to Saints’ survival. They showed grit, character and skill to overcome a strong Spurs side (Champions League finalists let’s not forget).

After the inevitable first half goal from Harry Kane, Saints showed resolve to come back with salvation coming in the unlikeliest of forms from Yan Valery’s boot. Then cometh the hour, cometh the man – James Ward-Prowse’s glorious 81st minute free kick curled over the wall and passed a despairing Lloris. Suddenly with that moment of magic, there was belief Saints could stay up.
