Southampton: Saints Women’s fixtures for 2019/20 season released
By Marc Walker
League fixtures for Southampton’s Women have been released ahead of the 2019/20 season.
In their first competitive season in 2018/19, Saints secured promotion from the Southern Region Women’s Premier division with an 100% record and conceded just four goals in the process.
This now means that they will compete in one of the four regional leagues in the FA Women’s National League.
The team’s eventual goal will be to reach the Women’s Super League – the top division in England and with the most financial reward.
They consistently have youth internationals joining up with England youth teams and have one of the most respected coaches in Women’s football in Marianne Spacey-Cale at the helm.
Spacey-Cale joined the club from the England national setup and her appointment showed a significant investment in the Women’s game from Saints as a whole.
Indeed, a report from the Daily Echo stated that around £1m was being put into that part of the club per season.
Saints Women will play their home games during the 2019/20 season at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium.
Currently at tier four of the English Women’s football pyramid, they will be looking to gain another promotion to the tier three FA Women’s National League Southern Division.

The success of the England Women’s team in reaching the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup recently has seen another boost for the Women’s game in this country.
Teams are now planning to host a selection of Women’s games at their main club stadiums and will look to play them before men’s games on the same day.
It remains to be seen whether Saints will go along this path too at this stage.
