McBurnie opener ruled out by VAR

After an even first-half that had seen both sides go close to opening the scoring. Sheffield United thought that they had got the all important first goal shortly after half-time.

A free-kick was swung in behind the Saints defence and the ball went all the way to Ollie McBurnie at the far post, and he had the simple task of passing the ball into a mostly unguarded net.

However, celebrations were short-lived as it was confirmed that a VAR check was taking place.

The goal was eventually ruled out as John Fleck was shown to have tried to connect with the ball himself after starting in an offside position.
