Southampton: New Alexa technology gives Saints fans chance to aim jibe at Portsmouth
By Joe Mcindoe
Southampton fans can rejoice as Amazon’s Alexa has learned how to Insult Portsmouth.
The smart assistant now has the ability to spout chants and insults for your favourite club as well as their rivals.
The smart device allows the user to do everything from organising the schedule, checking the weather, or listening to Taylor Swift. Now it enables fans to check player statistics, and information from some of Britain’s biggest clubs, which doesn’t include Pompey of course.
The press release reveals that the new skill is available for “more than 40 Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premier League clubs…” Saints fans can also look forward to roasting their smaller South coast neighbours, simply by saying “Alexa roast Portsmouth”.
We won’t spoil the joke here but it’s fair to say it brings a smile to the face.
For those who have dreamt of a day when an assistant could finally intone ‘When the Saints Go Marching in’ your dreams have just come true.

To discover this utopia simply say, “Alexa give me a Southampton chant”, and let it whisk you away to St Mary’s with its monotone vocal.
For those fearing that artificial intelligence could soon be stealing their seat at the ground, fear not. Alexa has a long way to go to embrace its inner football fanatic.
Currently, if a supporter wants a Saints chant we’ve only got one song. Cheeky insults are similarly sparse. Then again taking a shot at those down the road is a good start in our book.
The new feature is also good news for those who enjoy discovering the fun facts of football. The press release announces that curious punters can ask questions like: “Alexa, what colour is North London” and “Alexa, where did Tony Marshall come from?”
This latest party trick joins a long list of over 70,000 skills according to CNBC.
Now, if only those tech geniuses can add a defending skill, Saints will be on their way to the Champions League in no time.
