Saints 2-1 Chelsea, 2012/13 Premier League

One of three wins over top-six sides in the second half of Saints’ first season back in the Premier League that saw them take massive steps towards securing safety.

Jay Rodriguez scored first in this one when he combined superbly with Steven Davis and curled into the far corner around Petr Cech.

Visiting captain John Terry struck back for Chelsea in the 33rd minute, but Rickie Lambert won the match with an expertly taken free-kick before half-time.

Mauricio Pochettino would inspire an eventual finish of 14th after replacing Nigel Adkins halfway through the 2012/13 campaign.

Saints team: Artur Boruc (Kelvin Davis), Nathaniel Clyne, Maya Yoshida, Jos Hooiveld, Luke Shaw, Morgan Schneiderlin, Steven Davis (Danny Fox), Jack Cork, Jason Puncheon (James Ward-Prowse), Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez
