Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-midfielder – 4

His corner kicks are still not hitting the mark, and needs to be called out for his mistake which led to the first Chelsea goal.  Terrible give away while entering the attacking third sparked the counter attack and Abraham finish.  Missed his free kick from prime position, and played small out of the back, too often putting his side under pressure.  Best bit of play was a swinging forward pass which found Ings’ head in the 79th minute.

Oriol Romeu, Defensive Centre-midfielder – 6

Uncharacteristically out of position today, and especially on goals two and three.  Wasn’t winning second balls and it may be possible we have already seen his highest fitness level this season.  Needs to get credit for being a rock in possession, as he rarely, if ever, turns the ball over.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Centre-midfielder – 5

Understands exactly when and how to press and almost opened up the scoring in the first minute.  As the leader, he needs to take more control of this team and lift the Saints when they make mistakes.  Gets involved for sure, but at what impact?
