Southampton: Djenepo wins Premier League Goal of the Month for September
By Marc Walker
Southampton forward Moussa Djenepo has won the Premier League Goal of the Month for September after his memorable strike against Sheffield United.
He found the net against the Blades following a mazy run through multiple challenges and secured a crucial away win for Saints.
The Malian’s impact at St Mary’s so far has been a big positive for Ralph Hasenhuttl and he has been missed hugely whilst recovering from a muscle injury.
However, Saints can be sure of a big boost to their attacking flair when he returns to the fold.
Djenepo is the first Saints player to win a Premier League monthly award since Sofiane Boufal picked up Goal of the Month back in October 2017 for his superb solo goal against West Brom.
Whilst Saints have had a mixed start to their season overall, it is clear that they have some exciting options in attacking positions now.

Djenepo’s arrival and Boufal’s return to the club from a spell out on loan has given competition and creativity alongside last season’s star man Nathan Redmond.
In fact, Djenepo’s goal against Sheffield United isn’t his only special contribution so far.
Within seconds of being introduced as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Brighton, he collected the ball well outside the penalty area and curled a brilliant effort into the far corner to open the scoring.
His current injury issue is said to be difficult one for the Saints medical team to assess, but the early signs are that he may prove to be another piece of impressive recruitment from the club.
Hasenhuttl will be hoping that he is available for selection for next weekend when his side play Wolves away from home.
As they step into a tough looking run of fixtures whilst sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone, the Saints boss will be looking for more complete performances from his players.
