Wolves vs Southampton: Where the game will be won and lost
By Edward Waugh
Ball Retention
Despite both sides being bad at keeping possession; Saints should look to be better at ball-retention in order to nullify the threats that Wolves posses in their counter-attacks and strike partnership in Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.
Not only that, but seeing more of the ball against the midlands club on their home-turf could cause them to become frustrated, and in particular the home-crowd faithful who will want to see their side on the front-foot.
Controlling the game could become an even more viable option if Saints strike first blood in the weekend fixture, as then not only will Wolves be pressured into playing a more energetic style in which good ball retention will tire the Europa League competing team.
With that, Hasenhuttl’s men are less likely to be hit on the counter as well, since this is a major weakness of the south-coast club.
