Midfielders

Stuart Armstrong – 6.5

Southampton, believe it or not, were not on the ball very much in this match. But when they were, I thought Armstrong was great and provided that little bit of a spark we have been searching for when we have the ball. He works tirelessly making passes and runs to try and create something and it was his initial shot that lead to the opening goal. I think Stu showed he needs to get more minutes and can be a real help to this team when it comes to creating goals.

Oriol Romeu – 6.5

It was a very typical Romeu performance (minus the typical yellow card) he just did not have many chances to impact the match on either end. We know what we are going to get from the Spaniard week-in and week-out as he continues to be one of the consistent performers this season.

James Ward-Prowse – 7.25

The goal-scorer had one of his better performances this season after a string of indifferent performances. Hopefully seeing the ball hit the back of the net is what he needs to get his season rolling and we can see the Ward-Prowse we saw last season re-emerge
