Arsenal 2-2 Southampton: Three Key Moments that decided the game
By Joe Mcindoe
Quick Thinking puts Ings In
To put it generously Southampton’s performances have been inconsistent of late.
A hard-fought defeat to Manchester city was followed up by a dismal loss to Everton. The defence has been shaky, and ideas have been found lacking in a forward capacity.
That is however in complete contrast to the sides display at the Emirates. Southampton looked bright throughout, as they were confident in possession, and a keen attacking threat.
The likes of Nathan Redmond carried the team forward to good effect, while Stuart Armstrong also put in a strong showing.
SFC’s high work rate was rewarded early. After Redmond was brought down, Ryan Bertrand immediately played the ball and caught the hosts off guard. The left back found Ings, who calmly evades a sluggish defence before firing home on the eighth minute.
The Striker has been in a rich vein of form having netted six times for the Saints. The Englishman’s goal was no more than he deserved for tireless effort and impressive support play.
The forward was often found at the back, helping to set moves off or simply holding possession.
The club may be struggling, but the front man is indeed in fine fettle.
