Arsenal Pay the Penalty

The visitors took an early lead, but it was by no means against the run of play.

Lacazette levelled quickly in the first half but Southampton remained undeterred. The South coast outfit had several golden opportunities and could have easily put the game to bed.

In one such enterprising moment Michael Obafemi powered forward and looked to play in Ings for his brace.

The goalscorer showed good movement to drift past the back line as the ball came into the box. Before the Saint could pull the trigger however, Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney opted to tug at his man.

Admittedly, the foul was a little soft, but the referee pointed to the spot regardless.

James Ward-Prowse had his initial penalty saved, but the ball popped back out to JWP, who fired passed the stranded Bernd Leno. It may not have been the winner that the side so richly deserved, but the goal ultimately secured a massive bonus point in the relegation fight.
