Prowsey On Point

Saints started the match strongly and quickly took control. Norwich struggled to deal with the home side’s press and allowed the hosts to work high up the pitch.

After the Canaries conceded a dangerous free kick on the angle between the penalty area and the touchline, James Ward Prowse inevitably stepped up. The midfielder has been on a run a form of late, having netted in his last two matches.

The Englishman’s last outing against Watford saw him not only score a sensational set piece to the keeper’s right, but also rescue three priceless points for his side.

On this latest occasion the midfielder delivered an inviting cross, which Danny Ings duly accepted. The Striker met the tantalizing ball in, neatly heading it into the back of the net.

While Danny Ings should be commended for getting in between two defenders the goal was made in the delivery. The delivery from JWP looked bound to cause havoc from the moment it left his boot. The accuracy was pinpoint and testament to the damage the number 16 can cause from the dead bull.

The goal not only netted Ings his eight strike of the season, but was fair reward for a confident and in control SFC. A lead after 20 minutes meant the team had a platform to build from.

This marks the first time Southampton have scored the opening goal during a home match this season. It may have been a rare pleasure for an under-pressure side, but it’s one they took full advantage of.
