Southampton: Five players who have played for Saints and West Ham

Jose Fonte

Fonte will always be remembered at Saints as the captain who wore his heart on his sleeve and helped push the club to consecutive promotions followed by Premier League stability.

The Portuguese international dropped down to League One from then Championship side Crystal Palace to sign for Saints and went on to make 286 appearances whilst at St Mary’s.

His time on the South Coast came to an end in 2017 after a rumoured contract dispute and he joined West Ham for around £8m.

13 months in London saw him make 24 appearances before moving on to China, whilst he is now with Lille in France.
