Southampton claimed another vital win in the Premier League on Wednesday after beating Spurs 1-0 at St Mary’s.
Danny Ings was again the match-winner after netting a superb goal, but one moment from the game saw attention turn to Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese ventured over to the Saints technical area and appeared to look at tactical notes that were being taken down by one of the home coaches.
With Saints clearly not happy with this, emotions almost spilled over for a moment. However – not content with his involvement during the match – Mourinho has chosen to insult the Saints coach in a post-match interview with BT Sport and said:
"“I deserved the yellow card because I was rude, but I was rude with an idiot. But I clearly deserved the card because I was rude. I had bad words with the guy.”"

Given that his side disappointed during the match, perhaps this is Mourinho’s attempt at deflecting attention from the players onto himself.
Whatever it is though, it appears that Jose still can’t accept when his side’s have been beaten and his antics on the touchline saw him shown a yellow card.

Spurs enjoyed a large amount of possession during the game but didn’t create too many clear chances to test Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
The hosts on the other hand defended well and maintained their shape with great discipline before breaking quickly forward when they could – creating good chances for a second goal that went begging for Nathan Redmond and Shane Long.
It proved to be a similar performance to the one that we saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men put in away at Chelsea to secure a priceless 2-0 win, which was the second positive result in a run that has seen Saints claim 10 points from the last 12 available.
The setup that Hasenhuttl has settled on is simple and so are the tactics in a way, but it is working superbly well thanks to the players being in positions they fit best.
Perhaps this is what Mourinho is a tad angry about, but he’ll have to come to terms with the fact that his setup didn’t work soon.
