Southampton vs Tottenham: What we can take away from Saints Victory
The Saints have seemingly turned around their season and the results are starting to pile up but some questions still remain.
Southampton, have started winning matches and have jumped all the way to 12th on the table in what just felt like a few days’ time. Danny Ings continues to score at a rapid rate and the defense has looked much improved and the match against Tottenham showed that in a microcosm.
With that said, there are still some questions that need to be asked about this side and what the future will hold for them.
Where else will goals come from?
Danny Ings, has been incredible this season and has won over the hearts of every Saints supporter. With his 13th league goal coming on Wednesday he now accounts for over 50% of Saints goals this season in the Premier League.
This has to be a little concerning due to Ings history of injury. If something were to happen to our goal scorer or the goals dry up who will step up and prove they can score?
Shane Long and Che Adams are both without a goal yet this season and Michael Obafemi just has 1 in the league. This has to be concerning for Saint’s supporters and the lack of goals from our other forwards has really been masked by Ings’ fantastic season.
Will reinforcements be brought in?

The January transfer window is officially open and the Saints can now bring in fresh blood to help in the club’s pursuit of staying as far away from the relegation zone as possible. We have been told the board will back Hasenhuttl and bring in a couple players this January but nothing can be for certain.
This window, I believe the team needs to look into bringing in at least a new right-back and a new centre-back even though Jack Stephens is playing on a level we have never seen out of him before.
The Premier League season is a grind and with 17 matches left in the season the club could use all the help it can get to ensure safety in the league.
Will the Saints keep winning?
Up next for Southampton is Huddersfield in the FA Cup then Leicester in the Premier League. I suspect Hasenhuttl will have some heavy rotation in the side for the FA Cup match due to the heavy dose of fixture over the festive period.
Despite that, I think they still have a great chance at winning this match, even with a weaker starting XI and will advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
As for the Leicester match, we are all aware what happened in the first meeting between the two so hopefully things will go slightly different this time around. If Saints can get a point from this matchup I would call that a success and a victory would, in my mind, make up for the 9-0 defeat just a few months ago.
They are playing with the confidence needed to beat anybody and if they goals keep coming there is no reason they cannot win both of their next matches.
