Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8

Ralph hinted at changes for this fixture and he decided to make 10.  Only Ward-Prowse remained from the win over Spurs.  Handed Jake Vokins and Will Smallbone their debuts, and went with an entirely new back four.  The teenagers took their opportunities and propelled the team into the 4th round, and no players appeared to pick up fresh injuries.

Angus Gunn, Centre-Back – 6

A really boring first half making the saves he should have made.  Second half continued with more of the same.  Was probably the right place to get him back in the starting eleven, and one has to wonder outside of the FA Cup if we will see him again this season?

Kevin Danso, Right-Back – 6

Had a good amount of the ball in the first half, but didn’t do much with it.  Tried to sneak in the back post on crosses and attempted a few long throw-ins.  Flashed some ability to crash goal on set pieces, and best moments were in 1v1 tackling.  Still uncomfortable going forward on the wing, but did serve the cross in which led to the first goal.  Question is if he is better option than Cedric at the moment, and sadly the answer is no.

Maya Yoshida, Centre-Back – 6

Did very little outside of possession other than win a couple headers.  Conceded the forward passing to Vestergaard and the midfield, but not much more to talk about.

Jannik Vestergaard, Centre-Back – 5

Started the game well with some quality forward passes to break the Huddersfield block, but gave away back to back passes, including one that started the opponent’s first break.  Appeared to be the only defender willing to take risks against the low block, but risks come with mistakes.  Made the direct pass that led to the Shane Long finish.  However, today you could see where his decisions have dropped him to 4th choice at the centre-back position.

Jake Vokins, Left-Back – 6

Very little to do in the first half and got caught upfield more than once in transition.  Was a bit uncomfortable in his decision-making and made a couple poor passes because of it.  Although, he finished the game with a goal he will never forget and that is all that matters.
