James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 7

He must be the most fit player in football right now, playing game after game covering the ground he does.  Ward-Prowse displayed his fitness with a strong 27th minute run to setup Che Adams. Was not as clean in possession as always, but captained a side that has not seen a lot of match time to a win.

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 6

If there was one man every Saints fan expected to see in the starting eleven, it was Romeu.  Simple in possession, but could have played quicker.  Not good at moving the ball forward and takes zero risks even when play is begging for it.

Will Smallbone, Attacking-Midfielder – 7

A 19 year old making his first team debut in the FA Cup is always exciting.  Began the game with some quality touches on the ball, and had a moment in the first half when Southampton won the ball high, although his attempt was nowhere near goal.  Che Adams set him up 15 minutes later and chose a back heel over a shot. Nearly picked up a fine assist for Shane Long’s goal if not for VAR.  However, the youngster would take his opportunity in the second half and tee up a left-footed volley to give the Saints a lead.

Sofiane Boufal, Attacking-Midfielder – 5

Perceived as dangerous, but perception isn’t always reality.  Looked for the foul before the goal for the entirety of the first half.  Creates a lot of contact with his play, and limped off again.  Maybe we are expecting more than he is actually able to give?
