Southampton: Report states Ings is in line for Euro 2020 squad “audition”
By Marc Walker
Southampton striker Danny Ings is likely to be rewarded for his superb form this season with a call-up to the England squad.
According to a report from the Telegraph, Saints’ in-form man and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish are to be given “auditions” by Gareth Southgate ahead of the summer’s Euro 2020 tournament.
England play friendlies against both Italy and Denmark in March as they begin preparations for their latest competition and it appears that some players may get a chance to impress.
For Ings, an opening has come about after Harry Kane suffered a long-term hamstring injury which is set to keep him out until April or May.
It will be vital for Gareth Southgate to have the best available players in his squad come June given that England will be looking to make further progress on their fourth-placed finish at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
After receiving the backing of current Leicester City boss and his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, Ings has also backed himself to provide something different for Southgate to think about when speaking to NBC (via skysports.com).

When looking at the other options that England have at their disposal, he is right about his style giving a different approach.
Harry Kane is perhaps the complete striker given his all round ability, whilst he and Tammy Abraham are taller than Ings.
The other player who is enjoying a superb season is Marcus Rashford, but he is different because of his ability to play right across the frontline as a winger or a striker.
None of them have the poaching and pressing ability that Ings has in the current Saints setup though.
The 27-year-old’s knack of getting himself into the perfect positions to score is unmatched at the moment and at least four of his goals this campaign have come from him forcing errors with pressure.
If he keeps up his form until May and keeps his much-improved level of fitness, Ings must be with England this summer.
