Southampton’s 2-1 loss to Burnley on Saturday was their third loss on the spin in all competitions and something that will need to be improved on.

However, the result also worsened an unwanted record that has troubled Saints for a longer period of time.

Losing to Sean Dyche’s Clarets was their eighth home loss of the season and sees them with the worst home record in the Premier League.

The St Mary’s crowd has seen Saints claim just three wins and two draws out of their 13 games on the South Coast to date, and this really must improve during the remainder of the campaign.

Ralph Hasenhuttl and his side sit nine points away from the hallowed 40-point mark that has never seen a top-flight team relegated and the next three at St Mary’s could be key in seeing Saints safe.

First up this coming weekend are Aston Villa, who make the trip South having lost their last two league games and with the second-worst away record in the top-flight.

More from Saints Marching

This really does look like a contest where Saints should have a good chance of winning, but they will know that they could be closer to the relegation scrap again if they don’t.

Newcastle will then be faced on 7th March and are a fairly hot and cold team when it comes to league form, and then Arsenal come to St Mary’s on 22nd of next month.

Saints’ home form is puzzling and the root of the problem will be found if the team are to reach their full potential under Hasenhuttl.

Their away form has been superb in comparison.

On the road, they have accumulated no less than 20 points after winning six games and drawing two, and for many this hints at a mental issue for the Saints players when playing at home.

Sandwiched in between the home meetings with Villa and Newcastle is an away trip to West Ham, which will surely be a game that Saints will target more points from.
