Southampton have come up with an enjoyable way for their fans to wash their hands during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The importance of washing hands for 20 seconds has become a key part of guidance that has been given to the public during this outbreak, and football clubs have tried to come up with ideas so that their fans can accurately time this.

Everton used the Richarlison chant that their fans sing about their Brazilian striker and got fans involved by filming themselves putting it into action.

Now Saints have had a go at finding something for their own fans.

They have pieced together the four goals from Saints’ memorable 4-0 win over local rivals Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup back in September and made a 20-second clip that can serve the purpose perfectly.

This gives Saints fans an ideal opportunity to get their short football fix of the day, maintain hygiene at an important time and have a dig at their biggest rivals down the road.

More from Saints Marching

Back when both sides met at Fratton Park, Saints had to see off early pressure from Pompey but eventually took control of the contest.

This was the game that started Danny Ings’ rich vein of form too as he was brought into the starting line-up ahead of Che Adams.

Ings – who now has 18 goals in all competitions for Saints in the 2019/20 campaign – got the ball rolling on 21 minutes.

After receiving the ball just outside the area, he shifted the ball onto his right foot and past a home challenge before firing low inside the right corner. However, he wasn’t done quite yet.

Michael Obafemi poked a superb ball through to his strike-partner just before half-time, and Ings produced the perfect finish to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.

Into the second-half, Cedric smashed home from close-range to increase the advantage even further, and there was still time for Nathan Redmond to net perhaps the best goal of the evening late on.
