Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad for Captain Prowse

As Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is expected to leave for pastures new in the summer, saints were in need of a safe pair of hands to take the all-important captain’s armband for the foreseeable future. Fortunately for management they didn’t have to look too far as they turned to side stalwart James Ward Prowse.

Since making his debut as a 16-year old back in 2011 the midfielder has been a steady and reliable contributor to his team. Although JWP’s Style isn’t exactly the most aggressive or proactive, fans would be hard pressed to find many game costing errors across the 25-year old’s career.

The Englishman has also proved useful from a set-piece situation, with both pinpoint accuracy from a delivery and the occasional goal to go with it.

The latter point was more than proven on Sunday evening as ward-prowse found the net with an excellent set piece. This time around the ball found its way over a jumping wall before nestling on the far right side of a stock still Ben Foster.

The new Skipper made sealing all three points look effortless as he placed the ball into the back of the net.

The Youth Academy product hasn’t always been a permanent fixture in the starting 11, but on the verge of his testimonial year, the captain becomes the poster boy of what can be achieved as a Southampton youth graduate.

With six points from his first three games of leading the troops, the future looks bright for Captain Prowse.
