The Playmaker – Stuart Armstrong

Stuart Armstrong has adapted to Hasenhuttl’s system and found his role within it and is truly flourishing.  The gap between Everton’s midfield and back line was immense today and Armstrong found a lot of freedom flowing through it as a pseudo #10.  He picked up the ball centrally on a number of occasions and maybe was too unselfish not taking strikes at goal himself.  Armstrong did pick up an assist on the Ings goal and probably could have scored a brace if we are being critical.

The Scottish International is quietly becoming a fan favorite and may be the second threat to goal for the Southampton side.  His confidence on the ball grows every game and he has increased his ability to beat players 1v1, evident against Everton.  The number ten role is perfectly suited for his game as he is strong with both feet and comfortable in the centre of the pitch.
