Midfielders

Oriol Romeu, Central-Midfield – 7

Very decent in possession – 95% pass success rate – and still does not look out of place. Five fouls though, and a nasty looking challenge on Mason Greenwood – only he will know whether he meant it.

James Ward-Prowse, Central-Midfield – 7

Worked well with Romeu in the middle once again and another one of his set-pieces paid off for Saints when it mattered.

Almost cost a goal early on when he let the ball slip to Martial though.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfield – 7

Still quietly going about his work in the shadow of others but he is fast becoming as important as Danny Ings.

A fine finish early on and again busy in and around the opposition’s penalty area.

Nathan Redmond, Attacking-Midfield – 8

A nice cross and pleasing decisiveness to set up Armstrong’s opener. Unlucky to not score after driving into the box and curling a strike that was excellently saved by David De Gea late on.

A bright showing, and Saints need to make sure he trusts his own ability to get even more out of him.
