Southampton 1-1 Brighton: Premier League – Saints Player Ratings
By Erik Franzo
Strikers and Substitutes
Danny Ings, Striker – 8
Looked tired from the get go and the boys insisted on pinging ball into his feet and making him chase. Was deemed offside when he hit the back of the net and was given a chance to score moments later. His quality regardless of fitness shined through in the second half. He hit the post on his right foot and nearly found Che Adams surging across goal. When Redmond set him up for a sure chance to score, was there ever a doubt? Played all 96 minutes again and never let up, suggesting a rest may be on the cards Sunday.
Michael Obafemi, Striker – 4
Was more involved than his partner early on, but had nothing to show for it. Was removed at half time by an unhappy Hasenhuttl and replaced by Che Adams.
Che Adams, Substitute, Striker – 7
Replaced Obafemi at half time as a part of a double switch. Was unlucky to not have scored within the first 10 minutes. A first attempt was blocked off the line by Lewis Dunk and a second he was just late sliding into an Ings cross at the back post. Missed another chance to get near post from a Vokins cross just 5 minutes later. Rarely turned on his first touch, but did really well spraying the ball to the wings. Looked a little winded as expected with three games in quick succession and not a lot of time on the pitch.
Kyle Walker-Peters, Substitute, Right-Back – 8
Instantly injected some pace and promise on the right side previously occupied by a much more deliberate Hojbjerg. Showed he was a really nice addition with his skill on the ball and confidence dribbling out of trouble. Could have delivered a more quality cross on a couple of occasions, but changed the game with his skill set.
Stuart Armstrong, Substitute, Attacking-Midfielder – N/A
Was given 10 plus minutes to help spur the side to all three points, but was rarely involved.
