The out-of-favour Southampton defender impressed at Antwerp and with a reduced price tag will make a permanent move to the Belgian league.

The question now is, which club will pay the asking price for the Southampton defender. The club is reportedly looking for 6.5 million euros for Hoedt and it will most likely come down to Antwerp and Club Brugge for his signature.

More from Saints Marching

In my opinion, this has been a long time coming. Hoedt, did not have a future at the club and was clearly frustrated with that and made his intentions clear he did not want to be at the club anymore.

Now, Southampton are getting money back for the defender that they can use in the upcoming transfer window. Every bit will help Ralph bring in the players he wants this summer and £6.5m is nothing to overlook. For a club like Saints that money could go along way into bringing in more talent to help improve the results.

The summer transfer window will officially open on Monday, 27 August. With the move for Mohammed Salisu seemingly already complete, the Saints can look to bolster other positions. Such as right-back, centre-midfield, and potential left-back.

I believe Ralph is really looking to take a big step forward with the club next season and contend for a spot in European competition. That means this transfer window will be one of the more important ones in recent history.

If the club can play like they have since November for the totality of next season there is no reason to think they will not be finishing in 7th or higher on the Premier League table.
