Southampton: 2020/21 Premier League fixture release date revealed
By Marc Walker
Southampton will learn of their fixture schedule for the 2020/21 Premier League season this coming week.
Official word from the Premier League itself is that teams will know their calendar for the next campaign “no later than Friday” – the 21st August.
Saints fans will be looking for those key games during the season that could make or break the upcoming campaign for Ralph Hasenhuttl and his players.
The opening day and the last game of the season are looked for first, and then the Christmas period is scanned to see whether Saints will perform well during a notoriously tough time.
Any bunches of fixtures against the “top-six” are also picked up on and are usually a good marker of where Saints will be able to reach in the table.

In 2019/20, Saints started slowly with a very disappointing 3-0 loss at Burnley but had hit some great form by the last day to beat Sheffield United 3-1. Some pleasing results were picked up against the top-six and good performances over Christmas proved vital to keeping Saints away from a relegation scrap come July.
The Premier League have confirmed the preliminary dates that each matchday will take place on already. The opening day will be 12th September, whilst the season is set to end on 23rd May.
The inclusion of a small winter break has also been retained, with one half of the league playing Matchday 18 on 13th January and the other half on 20th January.
Saints will be facing three new teams after the winners of promotion from the Championship were confirmed recently.
Leeds United return to the top-flight for the first time in 16 years after winning the second-tier title and are joined by division runners-up West Brom.
Fulham will also be back at the highest level for 2020/21 after winning the play-off final with a 2-1 victory over Brentford.
