Southampton host Liverpool January 2nd at St. Mary’s

The end of the “festive fixtures’ finishes with a bang.  Southampton get their first taste of the Premier League champs who deserve to send some thanks and points the Saints’ way.

We all know Liverpool don’t win the title without Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Djik and there is likely no target bigger on Ralph’s dartboard.

With Boxing Day matches falling on a Saturday, all Premier League teams face a quick Monday the 28th turnaround.  However, we won’t know the New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day fixture list until closer to the date.

Chelsea and Manchester City are set to play in match week 17, but Southampton and Liverpool have to be the second-best attraction of the sheet.

FA Cup will follow midweek, so this could be a real chance to take down the Premier League champs who may be feeling overworked at this stage of the season.  All Saints fans have it out for Liverpool and maybe, just maybe, the Klopp of the Alps prevails.
