Popping Bubbles – Saints travel to West Ham on Final Day

The final fixture of the season and it could have serious implications for both Southampton and their opponents West Ham United.  Any trip London stadium is less than ideal, but fans will be hopeful to travel at all by the May 23rd match date.

The Hammers took all six points off of the Saints in 2019-20, meaning Ralph Hasenhuttl will be out for revenge as he continues to push his club to Europe.  However, what makes this a key match is how the final three fixtures of the Southampton season line up.

Fulham at home

Leeds at home

West Ham away

That is a real chance to grab nine points to the optimist and three relegation battles to the pessimist.  West Ham are sitting around 4.5:1 odds to be relegated, which puts them in the bottom half of the table.  The Saints in comparison are scattered across sites at about 8:1.  Yes, it could be a mid-table, zero-implication snoozer, but the EPL is savvy when it comes to their matchups on the final day and have pegged this game to be key on both sides of the table.  West Ham needing a point to stay in the league while Southampton need a point to qualify for Europe sounds like a secret handshake in the making.
